Free tools that work

As I wrote last time, most of the “free” software programs out there will promise you the world, but end up leaving you with a big bill.

But fear not, while finding free tools that help, not hinder, can be like finding a needle in a haystack - but they are out there.

To save you having to search through all of that hay, here are three free programs I use all the time.

1) Lastpass

Lastpass allows you to securely save and share passwords. It is also a great example of a product with a free offering that can easily be upgraded cost effectively. If you don’t have a password management tool – you need one today. Password management tools are your best defense against data breaches. Data breaches will not only cost you customers and revenue, but also trash your reputation. Additionally, as directors, you are personally liable if shown to have been negligent in securing your customers data.

2) Firefox

Firefox is a free web browser. What we like about it is their approach to users’ privacy. Compared other browsers they make it much more difficult for companies (like Facebook) to track your web browsing.

3) Green Shot snipping tool

Green Shot is a screenshot optimisation tool that is fantastic for creating online tutorials or guides. It lets you grab a screenshot and then easily overlay instructions, drawings and text. It is great for putting together step by step guides to help train staff on new programs or processes.
